For seven years, Mthatha pensioner Madyibi Ngxekana was a thorn on the side of King Sabata Dalindyebo municipality. Now he has been sworn in as a councillor for King Sabata Dalindyebo municipality, having won a seat in the November 1 local government elections.
Graves have been vandalised and granite marble tombstones stolen in Mthatha’s oldest graveyard, Sutton Cemetery, popularly known as KwaSeteni. And now concerned citizens have called on King Sabata Dalindyebo municipality to employ 24-hour armed security guards to man the facility and keep thieves at bay.
After years of a dodgy power supply, KSD municipal bosses have finally listened to incensed residents and are spending R21m on refurbishing three of the town’s biggest substations. Municipal spokesperson Sonwabo Mampoza confirmed on Wednesday that three private contractors were hard at work upgrading the Mbuqe, Thornhill and Unitra substations.
