At least four men believed to be involved in a number of brazen cash-in-transit heists in the Mthatha CBD have been shot dead in separate incidents this month. Some are believed to have been kidnapped before being killed as their bodies were found about 150km from where they lived.
Crowds cheered and clapped as an heroic off-duty Mthatha policeman single-handedly took down a gang of four heavily armed cash-in-transit robbers in a shoot-out which left one suspect dead and the others fleeing for their lives. The suspected robber died in hospital after sustaining injuries, the Hawks have confirmed.
