The Teshie and Kaneshie Divisional Police commands last Sunday shut down seven pubs for allegedly operating in contravention of the COVID-19 safety protocols during the Valentine’s Day celebrations.
The managers of the pubs and bars were accused of harbouring large crowds of people who were partying in celebration of Valentine’s Day without recourse to the safety protocols.
The bars include Point Five at Cold Store; Korr Bridge, Stanford Bridge, Tebibiano; Pablo at Anomantu and Yewo Around behind the Gonnor School, all in Teshie.
The COVE 117 located on the SSNIT compound, near the New Times Corporation and within the jurisdiction of the Kaneshie Divisional Police was also locked up.

The Accra Regional Police Command has advised operators of filling stations to tighten security around their stations following a rise in robbery attacks on such operations.
The recommendation of the police include the installation of undercover close circuit television (CCTV) cameras on their premises, well-lit environments, installation of quality security doors, burglar proofs and alarms and undertaking security and background checks of the people they employ.
Some of the measures could be executed with the assistance of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.
Context
There has been a number of robbery attacks on filling stations in some parts of the Greater Accra Region in recent times.
The police have arrested 24 people at various points in the Greater Accra Region for allegedly flouting the Presidential directive on the closure of pubs, night clubs, drinking spots and bars as part of measures to curb the spread of the COVID-19.
This follows increased patrols around such facilities, including beaches in the region, to enforce the restrictions on social activities.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Accra Regional Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mrs Effia Tenge, disclosed this to the Daily Graphic in Accra yesterday.
She said the ongoing operation, which started last Monday, had so far been carried out in areas such as Osu, James Town, Kokrobite, Madina, La, Tesano, Odorkor and Korle Bu.

A block at the Tesano Police Barracks in the Greater Accra Region has been gutted by fire, leaving some police personnel and their families homeless.
About six rooms were affected in the inferno which destroyed property.
The Ghana National Fire Service station at Abelenkpe was called to put out the fire last Monday afternoon.

Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mrs Effia Tenge, said the Tesano Police received information about the fire outbreak around 2 p.m. last Monday (February 1, 2021).
