DAVIS, Calif. - The University of California, Davis is offering students $75 to be used for staycations to encourage them to avoid nonessential travel during spring break.
Students who choose to stay home during the March 22-26 break will get the money in gift cards. Student response has been awesome, the university said in statement. The idea behind this was to provide a positive incentive for students to follow public health guidance, Sheri Atkinson, associate vice chancellor for student affairs, told the Los Angeles Times.
Many options for free COVID-19 testing in February
Free COVID-19 testing will be plentiful in February, from daily saliva-based testing in Davis to nasal-swab testing at sites throughout Yolo County.
Healthy Davis Together began offering its saliva-based testing for anyone who lives or works in Davis at the Veterans Memorial Center, 203 E 14th St., last week. Testing there is in addition to that taking place at the Davis Senior Center, 646 A St., and Mondavi Center, 523 Mrak Hall Drive.
Testing at the Vets is available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. (closed for lunch from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.).
A man reported being maliciously pepper-sprayed Tuesday evening in the UC Davis Arboretum, according to campus officials.
UCD spokesman Andy Fell said the victim was riding his bicycle in the arboretum near Mrak Hall at about 5:20 p.m. when an altercation occurred between him and another man

Unfortunately, this effort led to several angry tweets from President Trump because not a single story reported that he won November’s election “by a lot.”
I will not make that mistake. In fact, one of my goals for 2020 was to get mentioned at least once in a presidential tweet, but I failed. Still, I have nearly three weeks to accomplish that goal before Joe Biden takes office on Jan. 20, so please read on.
