Here our deep respect and sincere appreciation for people of other backgrounds who seek to grow in faith as well as knowledge. Georgetowns jesuit tradition of education has always prided both the pursuit of truth and virtue. It is the transformation of the whole person from ignorance to understanding, from isolation to dialogue. From indifference to more responsibility. It characterizes the best of what i just thought might georgetown has to offer. So much of the political and social discourse of our nation has heart into a rancorous noise. It has distracted us from our ability to be informed, honest, and even prophetic and our dialogue about the ethical issues facing us today. With these dialogues, we hope that a conversation in the midst of this sacred space might offer a more prayerful posture to engage political, academic, and spiritual leaders. Program which is a preview of the cases that are set for the second half of this term. The first half of the term had really more block busters than weve seen in a long time and the second half of the term promisees to be even more exciting than the first half. Fortunately we have an incredible panel here today to discuss these cases. I just happened to be visiting, and i didnt really know what to how to dress when i was coming out here from new york. So im wearing tweed [laughter] so im going to take it off. I just wanted you to see that i do, in fact, have a jacket. [laughter] i, i love history, and i have for a long time. I studied history in school, in graduate school. And what had always appealed to me as a historian was strong stories. And so my first book was a biography of alfred e. Smith, the first catholic to run for president , a poor boy who became the great reforming governor of new york and then would have been a great president , but he got wiped out by herbert hoover. And i love that story. I spent 20 years writing it, and i decided when it was done, id better hurry up on the next book or id be dead. The

They found out about this friday night and waiting on paperwork now Javier Flores is ready to start a new chapter. To tears javier walked out of the United Methodist church after winning his case after seeking sanctuary here. It was a hard journey. And im really excited that i get to have my dad at home. Garcia has been if philadelphia since 1997. He crossed the border on foot and met his wife and had children and they are all u. S. Citizens. He spent 15 months if a Detention Center for reentry into the country and on the eve of his deportation he sought sanctuary in the church. Its not about hiding or fugitives its about seeking justice.
