husband mark kelly. he s at her bedside and holding her hand. that just breaks your heart. makes you want to call my husband right now. bracing for a blizzard in the northeast. two powerful storms have collided creating what s called a weather bomb. a foot of snow in parts of new york. check out these live pictures. these pictures are out of lowell, massachusetts. it s not a live picture. it s on tape though. is this from lowell? we don t have those live pictures from lowell, massachusetts, but cnn photo journalist bob crowley these are the pictures. he was in the thick of it there. he joins us by phone from boston. hey, there. hey, carol, how are you? i m good. it looks terrible there. reporter: well, you know, it s not as bad right now as it was earlier this morning. i would say the visibility at one point when i was drove from
three hours and 45 minutes. wow. yeah. i m frazzled. literally. it s like, i wish i had that camera in my car rather than allan because it is still a mess in the southeast. it s completely iced out. now, okay. to mayor bloomberg s credit or not, there were 22 inches of snow last time. this one has nine. i know that seems like a lot. but it is. but it s not the same storm that they had last time, plus the snow is not as heavy. it is all snow. boston, rhode island, into connecticut. the big story is that this is shovelable, movable snow, and not an ice event that we just can t seem to move here across parts of the southeast. that ice just will not come off the roadways. look at the wind. portland, maine, gusting to 31, 41, 44 miles per hour right the there. blizzard warnings across parts of the region there. we re going the slow things down across the east but there are major snows coming into the pacific northwest. we talked about how bad this southeast is and all that but
more snow falling in new york city, so does that mean everything has gone smoothly with snow removal? let s check in with senior correspondent allan chernoff. hey, allan. we ve been driving the streets of brooklyn all morning long. we are deep in the heart of it right now. as you can see behind me right now there s plenty of snow here but the roads themselves, they are in superb condition at this point. i can tell you, after an entire morning more than six hours of driving, we did not find one road that had not been plowed at least once. and at this point, with the sun out, the cars driving, a lot of the roads are pretty much cleared of snow. the big word from brooklyners now is basically to shovel out their vehicles. that s the hardest task. the sidewalks, they need a little work as well, but what a difference between today and that storm we had the day after
60,000 people are without power. is this a blockbuster of a storm that has the snow blowing sideways in beantown. we expect the snow to come to an end, but not until later on tonight and before that is done, new england gets its second blizzard in three weeks, they ll see two feet plus in many of these areas. and from another city on the east coast crippled because of winter weather just in the last few days. and this cold air continues to pour into the deep south with freeze warnings out tonight. we don t expect any sort of significant thaw until this weekend. and even then, we ll be well below average. so awful. at least we re all sharing in the misery on this side of the country. thanks, we ll get back to you. the commander in chief becomes the comforter in chief. he h ed henry will have a live report next. and a quick look at the stocks. the dow is up 82 points. that s a good sign, too. much more news for you right after this. e to reinvent yourself. including your skin.
