There when really there were 11 . Court staff was sufficiently staffed during the incident. There was definitely more delays than there was 10 years ago. Reporter public defender gary goodman who has worked inside the palo alto courthouse for years says there are signs of deputy staffing issues, delays on a weekly basis to get inmates up to the courtroom. Then you can hear over the radio that it appears theyre scrambling to get enough security to bring the defendant up to the courthouse. So theres a cascading effect to that. Reporter johnson admits it does take longer to get inmates to the courtroom in palo alto because there is not an elevator but insists the courthouse is sufficiently staffed. The sheriff did not go on camera today but did say this after the escape. I believe that the court is very, very happy with the level of service that we provide. We can look at the actual span of the bridge or there on the suspension span and traffic is moving along very well all the way into San Francisco once on that span. This is a look at interstate 880 north and southbound. You can see traffic is moving well in both directions.
