Fuel prices continue recent climb

Fuel prices increase for 14th straight week A 6.3-cent increase in the national average price of diesel during the most recent week has diesel prices soaring to pre-pandemic levels, just a penny shy of the national average of the week ending March 9, 2020. The U.S.’ average price for a gallon of on-highway diesel is now $2.801, according to the Department of Energy’s weekly report. Fuel prices have now increased for 14 consecutive weeks, dating back to the week ending Nov. 9, when fuel was at its 2020 low of $2.372 per gallon. During the most recent week, prices increased in all regions across the country, with the most significant increase being seen in the Midwest, where prices rose by 7.2 cents.

Man killed in head-on crash near Ronan identified MTN News and last updated 2021-01-22 17:35:56-05 POLSON — Authorities have released the name of the person who died in a Thursday evening crash in the Mission Valley. Lake County Sheriff Don Bell says that 70-year-old Jack Howlett of Ronan died in the accident which happened on US Highway 93 south of Ronan. Emergency crews responded to reports of a head-on crash involving a passenger car and a semi-truck at approximately 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of Highway 93 and Innovation Drive. Howlett was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, according to Sheriff Bell.

Some Treasurers Office Driver s License Centers Open, DOT Centers Closed On MLK Day

January 15, 2021 Northwest Iowa A reminder that a number of government offices and some other entities will be closed this coming Monday, January 18th, 2021, in observation of Martin Luther King Junior Day. For instance, all Iowa Department of Transportation business locations will be closed. All Iowa DOT driver’s license service centers, normally open Tuesday through Saturday, will be closed Saturday, Jan 16. Normal business hours will resume at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19. HOWEVER the driver’s license bureaus at county treasurer’s offices are not part of the statewide closure, and many of them are open. However, many of them do require an appointment, so you will need to call ahead anyway. In addition, all actual Iowa DOT driver’s license service centers are serving customers by appointment as well.
