Where to Lick That Creemee Craving - The Montpelier Bridge

The Montpelier Bridge Maple creemee with maple dust topping from Morse Farm. With the weather warming (in fits and starts), The Bridge has put together this guide for Central Vermonters and visitors to four popular creemee stands among several in the Montpelier area. The Bridge invites you to take a deeper dive into the creemee business. Dairy Creme Cliff Dodge and his wife Laurie bought the iconic creemee stand on Main Street in 1997, launching a family institution. The building had previously been an A&W. Patrons would drive up to be served burgers and soda by car hops, but Cliff and Laurie had a different idea. With the help of their daughter Buffy, they began serving ice cream in two flavors, chocolate and vanilla. There was no twist available, so customers had to choose between the two.

Remembering Bill Beard - The Montpelier Bridge

When I drive from Waterbury to Middlesex on Route 2, my eye is often drawn to a log cabin on steroids, the home of the Green Mountain Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Then I remember Bill Beard and his passion for scouting.  Bill died in February at the age of 77. His obituary in the Times Argus mentioned his stint as the gas-pumping Santa at the Sunoco station in Montpelier, his commitment to announcing at Mountaineers baseball games, and to church and community organizations. Besides his family, however, Bill’s big passion was scouting.

Five Unexpected Vermont Maple Treats Worth the Drive

Seven Days Left: Bragg Farm s maple kettle corn, maple sundae made with ingredients from Morse Farm, Vivid Coffee s Sugar Shack blend, the Gateway Farm s maple butter and Woodnose s Sacré. Here s a totally unsurprising piece of trivia: In 2020, Vermont was the top maple-producing state in America again. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, our maple trees pumped out more than half of the country s crop, resulting in a record-breaking 2.22 million gallons of syrup. The Vermont Maple Sugar Makers Association has canceled its annual Maple Open House Weekend for the second year in a row due to the pandemic, but sap is still flowing and there are plenty of ways to tap into the spirit of sugaring season.
