The $90 million program is delivering 81 place-based solutions to digital connectivity issues in the regions through a range of mobile and broadband services, including a wireless network for the Gundagai, Cootamundra and Snowy Valleys areas in NSW. Together with co-contributions from funding recipients, state, territory and local governments, regional businesses and community development organisations, these projects will deliver new investment through improved connectivity totalling more than $180 million.

Minister for Education and Youth Alan Tudge said the payments would help students who had to relocate more than 90 minutes from their home for full-time tertiary study. “We know it can be tough for kids in remote areas to get a tertiary qualification, simply because of where they live and the additional financial burden of relocating to study,” Minister Tudge said. “A $5,000 helping hand will make all the difference for young Australians who are leaving home to study and will help cover costs like accommodation, groceries, bills and textbooks.

Cheap business loan program extended for those off JobKeeper

Cheap COVID-recovery loans with 24-month repayment holidays are on offer for Mackay and Whitsunday businesses that move off JobKeeper by March 28. More than 350,000 current JobKeeper recipients Australia-wide are expected to be eligible under the expanded SME Loan Guarantee Scheme. Loans will be available from April 1 and must be approved before December 31 this year. The Morrison-McCormack Government will extend the scheme as part of its commitment to support up to $40 billion in lending to small and medium enterprises. Under the existing scheme, the government says more than 35,000 loans worth more than $3 billion have already been provided to help businesses get to the other side of this pandemic.
