SMITHS STATION, Ala. (WTVM) - The city of Smiths Station is renaming all city roads from Lee County road numbers to traditional road names. However, one planned street sign to include two family names has led to a debate.
The Weeks family thought Lee County Road 295 would include their family name only to learn that wasn’t the case. It was originally planned to be named Stringer-Weeks Road, after two of the first families to reside there.

SMITHS STATION, Ala. (WTVM) - The City of Smiths Station held its annual âMLK Citywide Clean-Up Dayâ Saturday morning.
Martin Luther King Day of Service was created by former Pennsylvania U.S. Senator Harris Wolford and the late U.S. Representative John Lewis of Georgia.
âWhen I look and see our people involved in our community, it tells me that they care about it and thatâs what important to us,â said Morris Jackson, organizer of the event. âYou need to care about the community that you live in and the way the show it is also to keep it cleanâ
