KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany U.S. long-range strategic bombers were flying a Memorial Day mission over all 30 NATO countries in Europe and North America, officials said Monday.
The B-52H Stratofortress aircraft, deployed to Moron Air Base, Spain, were expected to fly with aircraft from more than 20 allies, U.S. Air Forces in Europe-Air Forces Africa said in a statement.
It’s the second time a bomber task force deployed to Europe has conducted such a mission since the U.S. began deploying bombers to the region in 2018, USAFE said. The mission is called “Operation Allied Sky.”
22 A Bomber Task Force deployment of U.S. Air Force B-52H Stratofortress aircraft, Airmen and support equipment from the 2nd Bomb Wing, Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana, arrived in the U.S. European Command area of responsibility to train with U.S. allies and partners on May 17, 2021.
The mission highlights the U.S. military’s ability to conduct integration training with partners and allies. This deployment of strategic bombers to Moron Air Base, Spain, helps exercise U.S. Air Forces in Europe’s capability to operate bombers out of a variety of forward operating locations.
The deployment is scheduled to include joint and allied training in the U.S. European Command theater and U.S. Africa Command theater to improve bomber interoperability.
