Notre Dame (33-15) saw its season come to a close Sunday with 7-0 and 4-0 losses to regional No. 1 Kentucky in the NCAA Regional final. Junior Payton Tidd (15-6) shouldered the first loss, while senior Morgan Ryan (4-2) pitched a career-high 6.0 innings in the second game, also taking the loss.
Irish Sweep Series-Opening Doubleheader at #15 Virginia Tech share
BLACKSBURG, Va. Notre Dame notched two Top-25 wins in the series-opening doubleheader with No. 15/13 Virginia Tech Friday, emerging with a 2-1 victory in the first game and following with a 6-5 win in the second.
With the win in Game 1, head coach Deanna Gumpf earned her 775th-career victory (now at 776), and with both wins on Friday, the Irish increased their total wins over the Top 25 to 96 since 1994.
With two wins Friday, Notre Dame forces Virginia Tech to not win their first ACC series all season, as the Hokies won all seven prior conference series they played in 2021.
Irish Travel to #15/13 Virginia Tech for Final Road Series share
NOTRE DAME, Ind. Notre Dame (22-12, 13-10 ACC) faces its final road series of 2021 as the Irish travel to Blacksburg to take on No. 15/13 Virginia Tech. Notre Dame enters the series off a five-game win streak, including a series sweep of Virginia last weekend.
OF Abby Sweet (.477) continues to lead the conference in batting average, as she has for the past six weeks. OF Emma Clark is tied for third in the conference in batting average, posting .423.
Entering the home stretch of the regular season, Notre Dame will attempt its fourth series win in 2021.
Irish Return to Action Hosting Series with Virginia share
NOTRE DAME, Ind. Notre Dame (18-12, 9-10 ACC) returns to play this week after a brief pause, set to host a four-game series with Virginia April 16-18 at Melissa Cook Stadium.
Notre Dame owns a 10-game home win streak thanks to an April 7, 8-1 victory over Western Michigan. The streak began with an April 13, 2019 win over NC State and extends to the Irish’s six home wins this season (Notre Dame did not play any home games in 2020, as the season was cut short prior to the first scheduled home matchup). Overall, the Irish boast 454 wins at home in program history, and their record at Melissa Cook Stadium since it opened in 2008 is 178-41-1.
