Dave Gorsuch embodied the mountain life
It was a gorgeous winter evening as a young boy joined his father on the T-bar at Chalk Mountain outside Climax, Colo. When they reached the top at around 12,000 feet, a full moon was creeping up over the ridgeline. They looked back down at the majestic floodlit slope. After a moment, dad skied over to the lift shack and flipped a switch, turning off the lights and flipping on the moonlight for a father-son cruise down the backside of the mountain to their home.
Such was life for young David Gorsuch. His father, Jack, was one of those ski area pioneers who bootstrapped lifts onto mountains and introduced a passionate generation to the sport of skiing. Young David would go on to become one of America’s great ski racers and forge a lifelong relationship with the love of his life, skier Renie Cox, as icons of the retail ski industry with the Gorsuch brand.

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS It truly is the season of giving in Routt County.
Not only did Yampa Valley Gives Day bring in record donations, but people across the area are finding ways to support those in need during the holidays. Already, the holidays bring out the best in people looking for ways to help, but with the knowledge that the pandemic has put more strain on families, Routt County residents are going above and beyond to support their community.

“Rip’s Run dedicated on Aspen Mt.,” announced the Aspen Times on December 8, 1983. “Rip’s Run on Aspen Mountain was formally dedicated Saturday in the memory of ski racer Rip McManus, a member of the 1964 US Olympic Team. McManus, a familiar Aspen figure who spent much of his time here ever since he spent a winter living and training in Aspen as a member of the US Ski Team, died a year ago in a car accident on the East Coast. Saturday’s ceremony marked the renaming of Midnight Cutoff (which runs from the bottom of Dipsy Doodle) in McManus’ memory. The two-week string of cold snowy weather broke briefly and the sun shone as a crowd of more than 200 people listened to brief speeches from Ski Magazine publisher George Bauer and Aspen Ski Club president John Keleher.” This image shows seven former Olympic ski racers who turned out to honor Rip McManus.
