MOORHEAD, MINN. (KFGO) – Moorhead Mayor Johnathan Judd will submit his formal resignation from the city council Monday night.
Judd’s appointment to a judgeship in the Seventh Judicial District by Governor Tim Walz two weeks ago requires him to step down from the mayor’s job he’s held for two years.
City manager Dan Mahli says the process will then start to fill the mayor’s position in the interim. He says the council could elect the interim mayor now or at a later meeting. Any council member could be picked.
Mahli says Deputy Pro Tem Mayor Shelly Carlson, who is a council member from Ward 2, will preside over Monday night’s meeting.
Governor Tim Walz and Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan appointed Moorhead Mayor Johnathan Judd as District Court Judge in Minnesota’s Seventh Judicial District. He will be chambered at Fergus Falls.
According to a press released, Gov. Walz said “I am honored to appoint Mr. Judd to the Seventh Judicial District Court,” said Governor Walz. “Mr. Judd has championed fairness, justice, and equality while working tirelessly to create open dialogue among community members throughout his impressive career in public service. I look forward to seeing him continue to work on behalf of the people of Minnesota.”
“Mr. Judd has a proven dedication to public service and social justice,” said Lieutenant Governor Flanagan. “Mr. Judd has been an effective advocate for his community, and his wealth of lived and professional experiences will make him an excellent judge. I am thrilled by his appointment.”
