New Shelby principal brings special education background

New Shelby principal brings special education background SHELBY - Special education has always been just that, special, to Sue Snyder. I had a close family member who really struggled in school, she said. I saw what a difference a good teacher could make. Graduated from Shelby HS  Snyder grew up in Shelby and graduated from there in 1985. She and husband Doug live in Shelby. She taught for 16 years at Dowds before going to Plymouth. Sue worked at Dowds for many years and then left for two years to work at Plymouth, where she gained invaluable experience as an administrator, Superintendent Tim Tarvin said in an email. Sue lives in Shelby so she knows our community very well, and of course, she has an excellent relationship with our staff, particularly at Dowds, but throughout the rest of the district as well.

Shelby school board considers renewal levy for November ballot

Shelby school board considers renewal levy for November ballot SHELBY - Residents could see a 4.5-mill renewal of an emergency levy on the November ballot. Shelby Superintendent Tim Tarvin brought up the matter at Monday s board of education meeting. He said the levy, which has been in place since 1987, generates $950,000 a year. Tarvin called it instrumental to continue operations. It s not a new tax; it s not an additional tax, he said. It s the same tax people have been paying since 1987. It s typically been a fairly easy sell. We need to go out and communicate well why we need this money.
