Shelby school board considers renewal levy for November ballot
SHELBY - Residents could see a 4.5-mill renewal of an emergency levy on the November ballot.
Shelby Superintendent Tim Tarvin brought up the matter at Monday's board of education meeting. He said the levy, which has been in place since 1987, generates $950,000 a year.
Tarvin called it "instrumental to continue operations."
"It's not a new tax; it's not an additional tax," he said. "It's the same tax people have been paying since 1987.
"It's typically been a fairly easy sell. We need to go out and communicate well why we need this money."
