Online workshop held on Participatory Epidemiology Approach in Mongolia

MoU signed for cooperation in health care with Cuba

2021-04-06 15:14:13 Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On April 6, Minister of Health S.Enkhbold and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba Raul Delgado Concepcion signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Health of Mongolia and the Ministry of Public Health of Cuba.    Under the MoU, the sides will cooperate in efforts to support health, communicable and non-communicable disease control and prevention, medical, pharmaceutical and biotechnological research, and primary health care.   During the signing ceremony, Minister S.Enkhbold said the development and achievements of health care and medical sciences in Cuba are well known to the people of Mongolia and that health professionals who studied in dentistry in Cuba have been leading in their field. The Minister also outlined the actions the government of Mongolia is taking against the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Mongolia reaches record number of daily COVID-19 cases, 11,651 in total

2021-04-06 12:23:03 Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. It was reported at the daily COVID-19 press briefing by the Ministry of Health for April 6, Tuesday, Mongolia has hit the highest daily number of new COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began, recording a total of 831 new coronavirus cases after PCR tests conducted at 23 laboratories nationwide.  In specific, 731 newly cases were confirmed in Ulaanbaatar city with another one hospital-acquired case as well as 99 cases were detected in rural regions, including Arkhangai, Bayankhongor, Bulgan, Khovd, Selenge, Uvurkhangai, Darkhan-Uul, Tuv, Khentii, Orkhon and Khuvsgul aimags.  As a result, the nationwide infection tally is now 11,651, with the cases registered in the capital city reached 8,906. 

Ministry of Agriculture, EU and UN FAO to continue to support employment creation in agriculture sector

2021-04-06 16:32:24 Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. On April 6, the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry (MoFALI) and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) signed a new project aimed at creating new employment opportunities for youth in the agribusiness sector. This project is part of the larger European Union funded (EU) technical assistance project “SDG aligned budgeting to transform employment in Mongolia” that will be jointly implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the International Labour Organization (ILO).  The SDG aligned budgeting project aims to support employment and promotion of decent work and improved public finance management systems through results-oriented budget initiatives as direct contribution to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals. 

Mongolia becomes first Asian country to adopt law protecting human rights defenders

2021-04-06 11:28:40 Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. At its plenary session dated April 1, Parliament of Mongolia, the State Great Khural, adopted a Law on Legal Status of Human Rights Defenders. The law will enter into force on July 1, 2021.  On April 5, members of parliament Ts.Munkhtsetseg and D.Tsogtbaatar held a press briefing in connection with the newly-approved law, highlighting that Mongolia now becomes the first country in Asia to provide legal protection for human rights defenders.  MP Munkhtsetseg said, “Mongolia is now a pioneer in Asia to approve legislative regulation to protect people, civil society organizations and communities who stand up for human rights.  Although Mongolia has
