Now, on the eve of COP28 African climate activists hope for decisive action beyond empty words, calling on leaders to fulfil promises made at the ACS and previous COP summits.
"Climate change is a life or death matter and should not be seen as an opportunity for politicking or for economic speculation," Nnimmo Bassey, Director of the Health of Mother Earth Foundation (HOMEF), says.
"Although some species have gone extinct [locally], such as the giraffe and cheetah, Nigeria has the rarest gorilla in Africa, known as the Cross River gorilla."
