The Nagaland Assembly unanimously passed a resolution seeking repeal of the AFPSA (Armed Forces ‘Special Powers’ Act-1958. It will embolden the anti-AFPSA movement in the State and beyond.
The resolution moved by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio was adopted by voice vote during the one-day special session of the Assembly held to discuss the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), 1958, and its application to Nagaland in the aftermath of the killing of 14 civilians by security forces.
The two-day camp ‘Sitting’ and ‘Public Open Hearing’ of the NHRC (National Human Rights Commission) concluded in the city on Friday. During the sessions, the NHRC recommended Rs 20.50 lakh as relief.
