Govt to Act on Afghan Airliner Still Grounded in Russia An Afghan airliner from the state-owned Ariana Afghan Airlines has remained grounded in Russia for the last 16 days on charges of skipping a customs process in Sheremetyevo international airport in Moscow.  Sources told TOLOnews that based on Russia’s customs laws, airliners that leave Russia by skipping the customs process will face millions of dollars in fines.    A letter dated Feb. 7, 2021, sent by Afghanistan’s Civil Aviation Authority to the Federal Air Transport Agency of Russia, has asked that the issue regarding the Boeing 737 that operates for Ariana Afghan Airlines be addressed.

Uncertainty Surrounds Decision on Kabul-Delhi Flights Uncertainty surrounds the decision based on which Kabul-Delhi and Delhi-Kabul flights will be conducted by government-owned carriers in Afghanistan and India.  Afghanistan’s Civil Aviation Authority on Saturday said “the decision has been made by the government of India.”  But information on India’s Airports Economic Regulatory Authority website shows that no company in Afghanistan has been so far selected to conduct flights between the two neighboring countries.  The Afghan Civil Aviation Authority in a letter lately announced that the Kabul-Delhi and Delhi-Kabul flights will be conducted by Ariana Afghan Airlines starting from January.

UAE Consortium Awarded Afghan Contracts Under Scrutiny Questions are being raised about three airport operations projects awarded to a UAE-based consortium, GAAC/G42, according to sources who say the consortium was registered as a foreign firm in Afghanistan a week after being awarded the projects. The company was registered in the UAE on October 28 before winning contracts from the National Procurement Commission for security, advanced technology systems and ground handling services for all international airports in Afghanistan on October 29. And, the company was registered in Afghanistan on November 5. The $47 million security service contract, and other contracts including information technology and ground handling ( the servicing of an aircraft while it is on the ground and parked at a terminal gate of an airport) were awarded to the firm on October 28, according to aviation sector’s authorities.
