Yahoo News, a member of the One Free Press Coalition, is publishing the group’s latest 10 Most Urgent list below to highlight the increasingly dangerous climate for journalists around the world.

Investigative reporter fleeing detention and fearing deportation
In January, freelance journalist Mohammad Mosaed was detained by Turkish border police. He had fled Iran following a summons to begin serving his jail sentence in two days’ time. The sentence amounts to nearly five years in prison, a two-year ban on journalistic activities, and a two-year ban on his use of all communications devices. Mosaed had been arrested in 2019 for posting on Twitter during an internet shutdown that authorities had implemented in response to antigovernment protests. The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) stated that Mosaed has contacted the watchdog saying he had been detained by Turkish border police after crossing into Turkey from Iran.
Back in August, an Iranian court had sentenced Mohammad Mosaed to 5 years in jail on charges of âcolluding against national securityâ and âspreading propaganda against the system.â
