Gunmen driving vehicles and riding motorcycles, horses and camels have killed 14 people, wounded eight, burned 11 villages, looted mills, and have stolen 15,000 head of cattle in Tawila locality, North Darfur, in the last 10 days, community leader from North Darfur Abdallah El Tajani said at a press conference in Nyala yesterday.
Not all the dead have yet been buried, El Tajani said. He stated that the villages in Tawila locality “have been under constant attack”.
Abdallah El Tijani said that the violent attacks have caused the complete displacement of 11 villages. Some 15,000 displaced people are now staying in other areas, including Katur, Shangil Tobaya Camp and Zamzam Camp south of the North Darfur capital El Fasher. They are living in harsh conditions, without shelter or food. Families have been separated.

On Sunday, one person was killed, another wounded, and three kidnapped in two separate attacks in Tawila locality, North Darfur. The North Darfur State Security Committee will deploy the Peace Shield Forces in certain localities to deal with the lack of security. Experts from the UN Human Rights Council called on the Sudanese government to take urgent action to protect civilians in Darfur.
Witness Hasan Adam told Radio Dabanga that gunmen with cars and camels attacked the village of Barakarou in Tawila, injuring Mohieldin Suleiman (42) and kidnapping Yusef Hamid (18), Yahya Idris (22), and Abdelbaqi Hamed (30). They were forced into a vehicle at gunpoint and taken to an unknown location.

In Kutum, North Darfur, the Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC) expressed their concerns about the insecurity and the poor civil services in area and the general lack of subsidised flour and fuel yesterday. In the West Darfur capital El Geneina, the sit-in of Arab herdsmen to demand the dismissal of the governor continues.
Yahya El Khumus, leading member of the FFC in Kutum, told Radio Dabanga that a delegation from the FFC Coordination Committee met with the Governor of North Darfur, Mohamed Arabi, in the state’s capital El Fasher yesterday.

Bread and fuel protests continue in Khartoum (social media)
Yesterday, protests and road closures continued for the third day in a row in Khartoum and a number of other cities in response to the high prices and general lack of bread and fuel.
The bread crisis in Khartoum is reportedly caused by cuts in the allocation of flour to the state. In North Darfur, students demonstrated against the lack of bread, high transportation costs, and deteriorating education system.
The protesters closed off a large number of main roads, creating barricades and setting fire to car tyres. The streets they closed off included Street 60 in El Sahafa, another number of streets in Khartoum, and the east entrance to El Jereif Bridge.

Students in North Darfur and River Nile state took to the streets yesterday to protest against recent price increases in consumer goods and subsidised bread shortages.
Hundreds of secondary school students in El Fasher, capital of North Darfur, participated in demonstrations to denounce the deteriorating economic conditions in the state and the complete absence of subsidised bread.
Chanting “we want bread”, they marched to the state government offices, where Governor Mohamed Arabi addressed them. He pledged to solve the bread problem.
