his business ventures here. thank you for the reporting. thank you. new day continues right now. good morning to viewers here in the u.s. and around the world. it s thursday, october 27th. and i m brianna keilar with alex marquardt this morning. nice to be back with you. it s great to have you here. john berman is off this morning. beginning with developments in ukraine where battle lines are being drawn in the southern city of kherson. ukraine says russia continues to move the occupation administration from kherson but is enforcing the city with newly mobilized recruits that ukraine s military suggests are being used as cannon fodder. more than 70,000 civilians have left the city as fighting increases. and a russian military strike in zaporizhzhia causing some damage, and power grids. cnn also witnessed a prisoner exchange, including the remains of an american fighter who traveled to ukraine to fight alongside the ukrainian troops. clarissa ward joins us from
giving the traditional cheer for the new man arc. charles has met today with the prime minister and other politicians an the archbishop of canter berry. many people are gathered outside including buckingham palace trying to catch a sight of the new king on this momentous day. we ve got full coverage of today s events, scott mcclain is at windsor casting, and we re in balmoral, scotland and at buckingham palace. max, you first, moments ago, now william, prince of wales put out a statement paying tribute to the late queen. what did it say? reporter: well it is deeply personal. he was very close to the queen. as was the princess of wales, kate. and he referred to how kate has given the the queen gave guidance to kate for 20 years. that is since their wedding in 2011 and the time before that. and william looked for the queens for guidance but what will be his own future monarchy. it was very personal. it wasn t necessarily constitutional. the prince the king will be dealing
viewers joining us here in the united states and all around the world. you are watching cnn newsroom, and i m rosemary church. we are following developments out of ukraine where explosions continue to be heard in central kyiv. the first blast came just hours ago, and one official says russia is now attacking the capital with kamikaze drones. cnn s chief international correspondent clarissa ward joins me now from central kyiv. what is the latest on this? reporter: so, essentially, rosemary, people here woke up to the sound of air-raid sirens followed by two loud explosions. then there were at least another two explosions, and we re right in the center of the city at the location or right next to the location of the impact of one of those blasts. you can probably see behind me there s still a lot of smoke in the air from that explosion. we don t know yet how many people may have been injured or possibly killed in this series of blasts here in the capital. we did speak to th

[ sound [ sound of gunfire ] explosions heard across kyiv amid reports of kamikaze drone strikes throughout the city. three people were killed including a six-month pregnant woman. involving drones and cruise missiles that were once again targeting critical infrastructure. as russia s escalation continues, both russia and nato are set to hold separate long planned exercises of nuclear forces. we re covering all of the angle this is morning. let s begin with clarissa ward live in kyiv. i know you spoke with the mayor this morning. what is the latest on the ground there and what did he tell you? reporter: so, bianna, the death toll here in the capital has now risen to at least four people dead. 19 were successfully rescued from a residential building that was hit. we visited the scene of that building earlier. we spoke to the mayor. he said it is quite clear that russia is targeting civilians and also crucially civilian infrastructure. heating, electricity, power,
