Today well hear from the services on their progress towards increasing the retention of military pilots both officers and warrant officers. We know pilot demands are increasing in the commercial sector and the demand to hire qualified military pilot is this higher than the available pool of candidates. With the problem being particularly acute in the United States air force. With the deficit at one point of over 1,000 total pilots. We are here to hear from the Armed Services on their plan. We know we cannot buy our way out of the problem since the military does not compete with the potential salary and some cases of the lifestyle of commercial airlines. So we must make sure the services are using all the levers in their control. F
What our advocacy is going to be at the state legislature and again very much like the past years the main focus for most of the directors is attrition and for us in San Francisco were so fortunate that we way over match in terms of dollars for nutrition but we know theres still a lot of food insecurities. A lot of triple as in california dont have over match. San diego makes do with what they have from them and its important for the directors to advocate for peoples basic needs and nutrition is something that lethors understand and get behind and we got money in the state budget but it was half of what we asked for and only reason we asked for 5 million and we got 2. 5 million so i personally and some of the directors have been advocating for us to increase that ask a lot so that if we get half of what we ask for maybe it will be more than what we got this year and we will continue to press on that. Im disappointed that the v. A. Was not able to release updated veteran suicide statistics at this time for this hearing. I understand that the center for Disease Control finally provided National Data to v. A. In the middle of march. Considering the critical interest in updated veteran suicide data, i cant emphasize enough the need for v. A. To pursue their analysis with a sense of urgency. Its my fervent hope that the new data will show a reduction in the rate of veteran suicides as a result of the investments we have made in v.
