julie and mike have been working on that story for weeks and weeks. when we approach a story, we re not coming at this trying to say will this anecdote move the needle politically one way or the other. we re trying to understand what happens behind closed doors when the president is making and crafting immigration policy. but to your point, this isn t the first time that the president when talking about immigration said things that people found offensive. remember we re talking about mexican immigration and he s called them drug dealers and rapists and killers. so whether it matters or not, that really isn t part of the calculus among my colleagues. that s been part of his i guess vernacular since he declared his candidacy for the president. the very first time he said i m running for president he was talking about mexicans in derogatory ways that way. is the article overall, matt, begins with the oval office meeting where the president is upset because apparently friends were callin
target fbi leadership because of dismay over the special counsel investigation. we look at congressman desantis from florida who proposed legislation to curtail the special counsel and cut off funding after six months. we are representative jordan from ohio conceding he s talked with the president about the special counsel investigation. we re going to see more of this as the special counsel grows closer and closer to the president and his family members. but that s what this is about. targeting career professionals because they re getting very close and this is dangerous ground when this happens. it comes perilously close to the definition of obstruction of justice. the president is tweeting about officials leading the fbi, leading investigations that he doesn t care for. he is impeding. he s deterring. he s harassing. he s intimidating. look up the definition of obstruction, you ll find those same words. do you think that s what joe walsh was warning of the president, that it s obs
investigation. is he special counsel. he has tools that belong to him and his investigative team exclusively that that are going to bring answers to all the questions we have. do you have a sense of where we are in the mueller investigation? absolutely. remember, there s been the investigation in terms of the people that have been subpoenaed, people that have been interviewed it s been more than two dozen members of the trump staff and campaign. now we re move in tighter. we ve heard steve bannon angkorry lewandowski have been invited not subpoenaed to speak to the house intelligence committee. now again, you have that kind of parallel investigation going on. subpoenas to deutsche bank. we re serving subpoenas. we re getting answers through the documents. maybe that money trail is going to lead to more answers. have you seen anything in this investigation and the behavior by the president that would lead to obstruction of justice charges? well, what s compelling about andrew mc
questions about the department of justice and the fbi and trying to sway public opinion in the president s favor. and i think that s something that the president is trying to do here. but it also, you know, undermines the credibility and integrity of the fbi when you have the president tweeting about his own justice department and federal bureau of investigation. all right. ya meesh with regard to the russia investigation trying to discredit robert mueller. i want to the play for you what frances said yesterday. the unfortunate thing is mr. mueller had such a distinguished career and he got into this thing and become so hopelessly compromise the kind of staff he picked and some of the horrible things coming out of the fbi, the department of justice. he picked a team that has given 12 times as much money to democrats as republicans.
of justice, that that s the way the attacks could backfire? what s what he said in his tweet. is that what s at stake? that s my interpretation here that if the president keeps doing this and he does it in concert with certain republican leadership, he is endangering or risking accusations he s actually interfering with the investigation of the white house. i think he s come very close with that. he s got to be very careful. if his counsel has him continue this and i know they may not be able to control him but there will be discussion in washingtoning whether this constitutes obstruction. i want to get your reaction to this. we re going to play it for you here. frances rooney questioning mueller s investigation on air yesterday. here it is. the unfortunate thing is mr. mueller has had such a distinguished career and he got into this thing. he s become so hopelessly partisan the kind of staff he picked and some of the horrible things coming of the fbi, the
