A combined state and federal effort to make the free COVID-19 vaccine easy to access in Northwest Indiana immunized more than 63,000 people during its seven weeks of operation.
The overwhelming majority of high school students at Everett High School (EHS) have chosen to stay remote at 75 percent – with less than 100 seniors choosing to come back to the building in person for their last month of school.
It is one of the largest opt-outs of in-person high school in the area, with districts like Chelsea at about 50 percent in person.
Supt. Priya Tahiliani said that 1,353 students (75 percent) chose to stay virtual in the high school through the first week, which started on May 10. There were 601 students that returned to the building. Of those students returning, the senior class was the smallest, with only 67 returning for their last month of school, and 317 remaining virtual.

CHICOPEE – The Regional Vaccine Site at the Castle of Knights is shifting the Thursday vaccine appointments to allow the site to run more efficiently.
About 20 appointments will be changed. People who had an appointment are being contacted and will be offered priority booking for the week of May 27 or any available appointment for Wednesday. The site, which is open between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Memorial Drive, will also be offering vaccinations to walk-ups on Wednesday as long as doses are available, said Bobbi Mabb, mayoral communications director.
