Police arrest Fort Deposit woman in connection with early April shooting

A Fort Deposit woman is accused of shooting at a car stopped at a red light and grazing a passenger in the head.  Shakildra Jenkins, 25, was charged with second-degree assault and shooting into an occupied car in connection with the April 4 shooting.  The victim told police she and her boyfriend were stopped  about 10 p.m. at a red light next to a gas station on West South Boulevard near Mobile Highway when an unknown black sedan pulled up alongside of them. Jenkins, the victim said, was in the passenger seat of sedan, according to court records.  The victim advised the defendant pulled out an unknown make and model gun, chased them by Cache s package store and Daniel Motor, an officer wrote in Jenkins arrest affidavit.

(WSFA) - A vehicle pursuit in Montgomery on Sunday ended with a crash and an arrest. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency says troopers tried stop a car for a tag violation on Southern Boulevard around 11:40 a.m. Sunday. Troopers say the driver, 31-year-old Gunvanta Thomas of Mapleton Georgia, did not stop, resulting in a pursuit. Troopers say Thomas struck another vehicle at the intersection of Southern Boulevard and Mobile Highway, then tried to run away on foot shortly after.

Car chases through Montgomery leads to two arrests in separate incidents

Corporal Jeremy Burkett said the first chase occurred Sunday shortly before noon.  Troopers attempted a traffic stop for a tag violation on a 1999 Chevrolet Camaro driven by 31-year-old Gunvanta Thomas, of Mapleton, Georgia, on Southern Boulevard. Thomas did not pull over and gave chase, Burkett said.  According to Thomas charging documents, he drove in excess of 100 mph, running a red light and making multiple unsafe lane changes. He then attempted to make a right turn onto Mobile Highway at a high rate of speed when he began to lose control of the Camaro striking a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe that was stopped at the red light.

Eastbound drivers on Bayfront Parkway should use North 14th Avenue and Cervantes Street (U.S. 90) as a detour route. U.S. 29 Widening from Interstate 10 (I-10) to Nine Mile Road (U.S. 90) – Motorists can expect intermittent lane closures and shifts, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., on U.S. 29, between I-10 and Nine and Half Mile Road, and on Nine Mile Road at the U.S. 29 Overpass.

Police arrest Montgomery man in connection with September homicide

The case against Vinson was ultimately dismissed following a preliminary hearing where District court Judge Tiffany McCord found no probable cause against him. The case against Tolliver was forwarded to a grand jury.  Now, a third Montgomery man, 22-year-old Sequan Gorman has also been charged with reckless murder, according to court records filed Friday.  It wasn t the first time Merritt had been shot. He d been homeless for about five years when he was shot in the leg in 2019 leaving him with a broken femur and nerve damage. He was dependent upon a wheelchair.  Then in September, he was in the wrong place at the wrong time, according to Gorman s court records.
