If you want to be completely depressed and bored, “The Midnight Sky” is the movie for you. A Netflix original, this is a space movie, set in 2049.
Dying scientist Augustine (Academy Award-winner George Clooney) is working alone at a remote Arctic research station when he learns of a mysterious global disaster. At the same time, he discovers a mute 7-year-old girl, Iris (Caoilinn Springall), who was accidentally abandoned in the Arctic when her mother was evacuated. He enlists her help to stop the Aether spaceship from returning to Earth from K23, a moon of Jupiter that was inhabitable for Earthlings.

George Clooney… Is there anything that this man cannot do? Aside from being one of the world’s most handsome men (yes, apparently there actually is an award for that) and an Oscar-winning actor, Clooney is also a seasoned film director. Unlike many of the films that Clooney has acted in over the years as a director, he seems to steer clear of big blockbusters and instead focus on films that appeal more to the serious cinephile.

THE MIDNIGHT SKY
A dark dystopian epic tale elevated by its stunning visuals by cinematographer Martin Ruhe and a powerful performance from lead actor and director George Clooney, âThe Midnight Skyâ takes place during 2049 on a doomed Earth, and, in outer space aboard Aether, a space craft returning to Earth from K-23, one of Jupiterâs moons.
Based on âGood Morning, Midnightâ by Lily Brooks-Dalton, the sci-fi drama focuses on astronomer Augustine (Clooney), who stays behind at his post near the Arctic Circle while everyone evacuates because of an unnamed worldwide catastrophe.

Photo by Philippe Antonello/Netflix The year 2020 has played host to a nightmarish global catastrophe, so ending the year with a movie about a nightmarish global catastrophe may not be at the top of many people’s lists. That’s the divide which the new Netflix movie
The Midnight Sky must bridge, something made easier by the presence of a movie star like George Clooney. Clooney, who both stars in and directs the film, plays Augustine, a scientist with terminal cancer who chooses to stay behind at a remote Arctic outpost when an unspecified disaster hits the entire Earth in 2049. Simultaneously, a group of astronauts including Sully (Felicity Jones), Adewole (David Oyelowo), and Mitchell (Kyle Chandler) who had been scouting a previously undiscovered moon of Jupiter as a possible new colony are on their way
