Ryan Kelley, a member of Allendale Township’s planning commission, is alleged to have been spotted among the people in the protest-turned-siege as supporters of former President Donald Trump rushed the Capitol in Washington, D.C., in an attempt to overturn the presidential election results.
During the Allendale Township board’s Jan. 25 meeting, held virtually because of COVID-19 health mandates, residents and others called for Kelley’s removal from the township planning commission.

ALLENDALE, Mich. â A West Michigan man is defending himself and the other people involved after they allegedly damaged a controversial statue in Allendale this weekend.
Mitch Kahle, founder of the Michigan Association of Civil Rights Activists, says around 6 p.m. Friday a handful of people from his organization, including himself, and Justice for Black Lives, another West Michigan group, âtarred and featheredâ the Confederate soldier part of the Civil War statue in Allendale Townshipâs Veteranâs Garden of Honor.
The black paint and feathers have since been cleaned off.

ALLENDALE, MI Two groups “tarred and feathered” a controversial Civil War statue featuring a Confederate soldier, hoping to ramp up pressure on local government leaders to remove it.
A handful of people with Justice for Black Lives and the Michigan Association of Civil Rights Activists (MACRA) used water, corn starch, flour and feathers on the statue about 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8. They hung a “Traitor” sign around the Confederate soldier.
