ALLENDALE, MI -- Two groups “tarred and feathered” a controversial Civil War statue featuring a Confederate soldier, hoping to ramp up pressure on local government leaders to remove it.
A handful of people with Justice for Black Lives and the Michigan Association of Civil Rights Activists (MACRA) used water, corn starch, flour and feathers on the statue about 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8. They hung a “Traitor” sign around the Confederate soldier.
