With the upheaval of so many normal routines due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, one Houma family is making sure a familiar, decades-old Christmas tradition is preserved.
Two days before Christmas, you can see Earl McElroy Jr. dressed up as Santa along with his wife Julie McElroy, passing out candy canes and taking photos with kids who stop by their house, at 142 Cleveland St. With carols playing in the background along with a giant illuminated JOY sign, the house has become a Christmas tradition of its own for many locals.
“Sometimes we get letters from little children, and they always ask for what they want from Santa,” Julie McElroy said. “We just love doing it. It brings happiness, and it seems to make a lot of people happy.”
