Water crisis in rural areas can create extreme living situations for residents. With our natural resources ever depleting, the only way to resolve such issues is by taking charge of nurturing natural resources. One such possible method is rainwater harvesting, a conservation method that’s been around for decades but still not used to its full capacity. And a man who is dedicating his life to make the process a life-saving solution in Indian villages is Colonel SG Dalvi (Retd).

Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar, while hosting the Network18 initiative Mission Paani Waterthon, decided to walk the treadmill for more than 21 kilometers as he wanted to understand the plight of the women who fetch water from long distance sources.
Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman, who scored the anthem for the Mission Paani campaign, said that working with director Shekhar Kapur on his now-shelved movie Paani inspired him to come on board the News18 initiative.
Mission Paani: Transgender Community-run Water Plant in Maharashtra is All about Creating Awareness

In a first of its kind, a drinking water plant has been opened near Wagholi in Maharashtra which is run entirely by people from the transgender community from Pune. Considered as a step in the right direction to provide financial independence to transgenders, the plant was set up under Kineer Services a few weeks ago, along the Pune-Ahmednagar Road. Kineer Services is an initiative by Laxmi Narayan Tripathi, a prominent transgender activist. Four transgender women have been recruited to run the plant – Mamta, Ranitai Patel, Shakti and Prerna – with assured monthly salary.
