Niall Dixon, now 24, was pulled over on Scattergate Crescent on October 21, 2019. “He smelled strongly of cannabis and was signally nervous,” prosecutor Brendan Burke told Carlisle Crown Court. Police discovered a rock of a white substance - cocaine - as they searched Dixon’s vehicle, and also visited his home. In total, they seized 12g of cocaine, 4g of cannabis and a smaller amount of another class B drug, ketamine. When brought to court, Dixon admitted possessing all three illegal substances. He had been locked up in 2016 for his role in a plot to supply class B drug Mcat. Dixon’s barrister, Kim Whittlestone, said: “He suffered a road traffic accident when a young man, an extremely serious road traffic accident which led to a number of members of his family, including this defendant, being hospitalised. It was as a result of injuries he suffered which led him to use cannabis. That led him to self-mediate with other substances.”

A Cumbrian farmer who repeatedly raped one schoolgirl and molested another after grooming both with gifts of sweets and cigarettes has been handed a 20-year jail term for the historic crimes.
The female raped by Raymond Harrison several decades ago told police as she made disclosures as an adult many years later of a threat he gave her, adding: âHe said nobody was to know because it had to be our secret.â
