Sri Lanka’s President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa is expected to open Lanwa Sanstha Cement Corp (Pvt)’s 4Mta in the Mirijjawila Export Processing Zone of Hamba.
Sri Lanka's Lanwa Sanstha Cement is now expected to commence operations in January 2022, when it opens a US$80m plant in the Mirijjawila Export Process.
Sun, Dec 13, 2020, 01:24 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka. Dec 13, Colombo: Lanwa Sanstha Cement Company, Sri Lanka’s largest cement factory currently being constructed adjacent to the Hambanthota Port is scheduled to commence production in June next year.
This state-of-the-art factory will be one of the largest cement factories in the South Asian region. The factory will manufacture cement according to most eco-friendly methods using state-of-the-art European technology.
Rohitha Abeygunawardena, Minister of Ports and Shipping; Chanaka and a number of other dignitaries visited the site last week to monitor its progress.
The Board of Investment (BOI) registered project will build the factory on 63 acres of land in the Mirijjawila Export Processing Zone in Hambantota with an initial investment of US$ 70 million in the first phase and an estimated production capacity of around 2.4 million metric tons per annum.

Slated to be country’s largest featuring advanced European technology end-to-end
State-of-the-art cement manufacturing facility Lanwa Sanstha Cement Corporation Ltd., which is slated to be one of the largest in the region, is scheduled for commissioning in June 2021. The facility, spread across 63 acres, is in the Mirijjawila Export Processing Zone, Hambantota.
A Board of Investment (BOI) approved venture, the investment for Phase 1 of project was $ 70 million and the production capacity of same is estimated to be 2.4 million Metric Tons per annum. In the second phase, a further investment of $ 10 million will be infused to the project whereby the production capacity will expand by another 1.2 million MT.
