Speaker paul ryan. Lets begin with the election. What do you think is the state of the Republican Party after november 3rd . You know, its surprising, its an election where you had the rare event of an incumbent president getting voted out and yet republicans seemed pretty happy generally with the outcome not because hes lost but because downballot they did so well. I think there was a lot of expectation after this election, if the polls were right and it was going to be a blowout for democrats, that there would be a lot of grappling within the party about what it stands for and what the future is and where to go from here. I havent seen that at all. In a lot of ways republicans feel like what the outcome particularly down ballot is justification of everything that the president has been doing and that trumpism, if you will, has worked. You had a situation where democrats were expected to take another 10, 12, maybe 15 seats and in fact had lost close to 10 in the house. Certainly, demo

I am proud to say it led to the first bipartisan package in decades. It took time and a willingness to acknowledge that no party has a monopoly on good ideas. M proud of what we are what we created together. Although we were already holding these hearings in our committee, we require that others hold them also so that all members have a chance to be heard in front of congress. Hopefully, more good ideas have the chance to see a light of day. I couldnt ask for a better partner than our Ranking Member, tom cole. We come from different parties, but we share the same dedication to this institution. What this is really all about, a wellfunctioning house allows us to tackle the issues that can make a positive difference in peoples lives and that is why we already for prep congress and the first place. Say about how gop leaders are reacting to the election outco outcome. The president does not like to lose and never admits loss. I more troubled by the fact that other republican officials, who clearly know better, are going along with this and humoring them in this fashion. It is one more step into delegitimizing, not just the incoming biden administration, but democracy in general. That is a dangerous path we. We would never accept that out of our own kids behaving that way if they lost. Right . I mean, if my daughters in any kind of competition pouted and then accused the other side of cheating when they lost when there was no evidence of it, we would scold them. I think that there has been this sense over the last several years that literally anything goes and is justified in order to get power and that is not unique to the united states. There are strong men and dictators on the world to think that i can do anything to stay in power. I can kill people. I can throw them in jail. I
