COLOMBO (News 1st): The State Vesak Festival that was scheduled to be held in Nagadeepa, Jaffna has been cancelled, the Ministry of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs confirmed on Saturday (May 08).
This decision was reached in accordance with the instructions issued by the Director-General of Health Services, the Ministry noted.
The Ministry of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs had planned to hold the State Vesak Week during the week starting from 23rd of May; the main festival was set to be held on the same day in Nagadeepa.
Accordingly, people are requested to celebrate Vesak and continue religious observances at home on Vesak Poya Day this year, taking into account the prevailing situation, Prof. Kapila Gunawardena, the Secretary of the Ministry of Buddha Sasana stressed on Saturday (May 08).
