Independent Media has compiled a performance report to help South Africans hold those they voted into power accountable for the promises they made to change their lives for the better. Below we provide a fair and objective evaluation of ministerial and presidential performance for the 2019 financial year to date, using the Medium-Term Strategic Framework, seven priorities of the Sixth Administration, Budget Speech, State of the Nation Address and the recently signed Performance Agreements between President Cyril Ramaphosa and his Cabinet ministers.

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize on Sunday called on the private sector, including pharmacies, to help with the rollout but the government is yet to outline how exactly they will help. Dis-Chem and Clicks have a combined 45% dispensary market share. Dis-Chem, with more than 180 stores, will offer the vaccines at all its clinics nationwide and is also looking to offer them at its eight drive-through Covid-19 testing stations, Dis-Chem National Clinic Manager Lizeth Kruger told Reuters.

This, after Health Minister, Dr. Zweli Mkhize, said in his latest report on Wednesday that 844 deaths were reported in a 24-hour period, with 452 coming from the province. “The 452 deaths reported from the Eastern Cape are as a result of data reconciliation dating between May and November 2020.  This includes analysis of community cases where post-mortem swabs were taken for COVID testing and analysis of clinical records where the diagnosis was unconfirmed at the time of demise,” Minister Mkhize said.
