Warrior Beach Week postponed to 2022
Operation Seas the Day announced that the 8th Warrior Beach Week will not be held in 2021. President Becky Johns said, “While this event continues to be important to Bethany Beach and surrounding areas, the impact of COVID-19 on the health and well-being of our guest families, volunteers and the community outweigh holding the 2021 event.”
Warrior Beach Week provides military veterans and their families a week of rest and relaxation in the Bethany Beach area to enjoy the sun, sand and community recognition. Tremendous support for this event has changed lives and made it highly desirable for veterans and their families. Recognizing that warriors and their families still need help, organizers suggest supporters may redirect this year’s contributions to veteran organizations and/or those continuing to be adversely affected by the pandemic.

Milford School District and Abbottâs Mill Nature Center have partnered this year to continue providing field experiences to students despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Because students are still using a hybrid learning experience with some students still in a completely remote setting, the experiences will be conducted remotely this year.
âAbbottâs Mill has worked to pivot our traditionally hands-on rich field experiences with a remote environment,â Dr. Bridget Amory, Director of Student Learning, said. âWhile the experiences will be different this year, we are confident in Abbottâs Mill and their ability to engage our students. We are eager to resume our partnership and provide this opportunity for our students.â

The Sussex Bird Club will address the topic of using native plants to attract birds to the garden during its meeting at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 14.
Alice Mohrman, education coordinator and certified wildlife habitat outreach agent at Abbott’s Mill Nature Center in Milford, will present the lecture. She will demonstrate how to create layers of native plants in a large or small landscape to attract birds throughout the year. These garden ideas with attractive native plants will serve to support wildlife and help reduce pollution in area waterways. She will also discuss how to certify a property as a National Wildlife Federation Wildlife Habitat.
