trump kept delaying it, and at the same 250i78 time, the military financial assistance was suspended. so now eric swalwell, and we re going to hopefully be learning more about this in the next couple of minutes here, says they have proof from volker that there was some sort of requirement that zelensky put out a statement saying they would investigate biden in order to have that bilateral meeting. which is the definition of a quid pro quo, i believe. that s incredible. rachael bade, we ll be looking for that. appreciate your reporting today. david gergen, what do you make of this? i think it s more quid pro quo. anderson, before we went to the break, the point i wanted to make about the president s relationship with china, he s not only, you know, asked them for this for help on the investigation, but remember, and elizabeth warren put out a tweet on this tonight, he basically has told the chinese that he would not he would stay quiet
be pursuing this information. but listen, we just had some interesting news coming out of the committee. we saw eric swalwell, who is a democrat from california. he came out and just told us that the committee now has evidence from volker that there was basically a requirement that zelensky put out a statement saying that he was going to investigate biden in order for zelensky to have a face-to-face meeting with trump. and that is significant because ukraine, when zelensky was first elected and in early may, a big participant of the u.s. promise or negotiations with ukraine was that they would have this face-to-face meeting. they were really looking forward to that meeting. trump kept delaying it, and at the same time the military financial assistance was suspended. so now eric swalwell, and we re going to hopefully be learning more about this in the next couple of minutes here says they have proof from volker that there was some sort of requirement that zelensky put out a statement sa
obviously, that didn t take, because giuliani continued to pursue this matter. we are also learning that volker warned the ukrainians, even as giuliani was talking to him, that they should not be getting involved in u.s. domestic politics. that if they were to sort of step into this mess they could potentially in the future be accused of meddling in the u.s. election and it would hurt ukraine long term. he was also telling ukrainians, be careful. we re also learning there was an actual agreement between ukraine and the united states that the president of ukraine was supposed to come to the u.s. right after zelensky was elected, to meet with trump. and they were really excited about this meeting. that was obviously delayed, delayed, delayed as the u.s. was holding military financial assistance and trump was pressuring ukraine to have this investigation. and zelensky told lawmakers that that meeting and the delay caused a lot of internal panic and a lot of internal concern by a u.s. ally
