A police officer is under investigation by Connecticut State Police after shooting a suspect in the leg.
The incident took around 7 a.m., Monday, April 26, in New Haven County when the two people ran up to the Derby officer s police cruiser as he was sitting at a traffic light, said State Police Trooper Joe Dorelus.
The officer got out of his vehicle to see what was wrong when one of the people who approached the vehicle pulled out a gun and fired shots at a passing vehicle, Dorelus said.
The Derby officer then returned fire and shot the man in the leg, he added.
Body camera footage from deadly officer-involved shooting expected to be released
HARTFORD, Connecticut (WFSB) State investigators are currently reviewing body camera footage from several Hartford Police officers, going over every second of Saturday’s deadly officer-involved shooting.
Both Mayor Luke Bronin and Hartford Police Chief Jason Thody stressed today the investigation is being done thoroughly by investigators who normally wouldn’t look into incidents in Hartford, wanting the community’s trust in a time when trust in policing is strained.
Several Hartford Police officers’ body cams were rolling in the moments before and after Officer Ashley Martinez fired her gun.
