The lead-up to high school graduation can be an exciting and busy time for seniors. The spring of the final year is loaded with milestones.
For many, one of the high points is the senior prom, an escape from the school setting and dress code that has marked the previous 12 years.
This year, with COVID-19 no friend of traditions, schools are taking a varied approach to the prom. Some are moving forward, with limits. Others have canceled it, steering students to other senior events.
Sutton High School, which initially balked at a prom, is holding one on May 14 at Union Station in Worcester. Officials were careful to stay within state capacity limits.
Milford High School graduation is on, but prom is likely off

MILFORD The Class of 2021 is scheduled to graduate on time this year, although Milford High School Principal Joshua Otlin said it s unlikely the school would be able to host a prom.
“There continues to be a fairly high level of uncertainty around senior activities,” he said this week.
Otlin said he expects to be able to hold most traditional events for graduating seniors on the “customary schedule,” meaning awards ceremonies will be held in the week or two leading up to a June graduation.
Last year’s graduation was postponed until August.
