Kicking donald duck, that this had just gone so far, maybe too far. Was there not an argument, especially since theyve brought in an outside expert they didnt just sit there and try to do this themselves, they went to a person respected by both sides and said, give us a fair map, which you now see on the right. Was this technically the wrong thing to do . Maybe is it not for the best . Well, first of all, i would dispute that the expert was somebody accepted by both sides. We didnt know him, so number one. Number two but i will say, ive seen republicans as well give him kudos for previous work. Lets just say for the sake of argument that the other map, you know, was not was not contiguous and compact enough. Theres a process here, and theres a legislature. Theres a judicial theres a democratic process for fixing these things. Now, for five judges on the Supreme Court to stand up and tell the General Assembly that they know better, that in 16 days you guys have to draw a new map, and if
District, which is out in western pennsylvania. So gerrymandering, thats what were talking about right here. The Pennsylvania State Supreme Court ruled this week that all 18 of the states congressional districts need to be redrawn because they were gerrymandered to favor republicans. The Gopled Legislature has until february 9th to submit a new map. There is the current map there right now. A new map and Governor Wolf has until the 15th to send it back to the court. Well get Governor Wolfs response in a moment, but, dom, is there enough time to do this and do it right and do it so that all parties that need to approve it will approve it . I dont think so, and i object to it, to the broader point of what the courts have done. They clearly have just overstepped their bounds. I dont see how anyone would see it differently. The reason why there are 13 republicans in the state is because theyre spread out. Democrats are more in concentrated areas. This is ridiculous, this district. I get th
Are the two in doubledigit leads, but lets run through the entire list just to be fair to all of them. Phil murphy, jim johnson, john wisniewski, raymond lesniak, bill brennan, and mark zinna are the democrats on the slate. Kim guadagno, Jack Ciattarelli, steve rogers, joseph rullo, and hirsh singh are the republicans who would like to be the next governor. The libertarian candidates are not gonna be pictured, but well tell you they are peter rohrman. The green party has seth kaperdale, and the independent candidate is jon lancelot. What do you see as some of the differentials, and what may, in the end, make a difference . Voters are going to the polls on tuesday. Well, historically, new jersey has the opposite party of whoever won the white house tends to do well. Murphy certainly hes kind of corzine 2. 0, right . Hes a Goldman Sachs guy, a gazillionaire whos funding his own race. Weve seen this movie before. And the other key thing for murphy is hes from monmouth county. For republic
Its a special edition of this week. Obama in the oval. Our final interview with president obama. Eight years ago, he came to our studio for the first time. A president elect confronting an economic crisis, just days away from taking his oath. Does it feel like youre president already . No. Youre going at quite a pace . All the bells and whistles. As much as we are working hard in the next couple of weeks, i think that when youre actually in the Oval Office Making decisions, i think thats going to be different. This time, just days away from the end of his presidency, we came to the white house for his final sunday interview. An hour in the oval office to reflect on the last eight years and the donald Trump Presidency coming next. I met the president in the residence. Mr. President , thank you for doing this. As were walking towards your office, i have to think youre going to miss this short commute. I am. Its one of the biggest benefits of being president that you dont think about unti
House speaker. Now, the state senate, as you know, has the largest republican majority since 1950. Theres the guy thats gonna have to deal with them, governor tom wolf, a democrat. The state house has the biggest republican majority since 1958. Goodness me. Dom giordano, how is Governor Wolf going to do anything over this next calendar year . Well, hes gonna have a lot of trouble doing anything. Hes gonna be on the defensive, but i dont have a lot of faith in these guys in harrisburg who are republicans. How come . You still have the liquor law in place, even though weve had widespread pushback with wolf, and they just seem to be out of touch. The sanctuary cities bill got passed, wolf vetoed it, but they ran out of days and didnt do anything with it. So hell be on the defensive, but i dont know that theres so many people there pushing back against him in a united way among republicans. They squabble. And, you know, matt, theres a lot the governor can do where he doesnt need the legisl
