The Covid-19 pandemic has changed every aspect of the way we work and live and as we head into 2021 it an sometimes feel as though the only certainty ahead is more uncertainty. Yet despite this, as I reflect on the past 12 months there is also much cause for optimism. The pandemic has resulted in a growing consensus on the need for us to all come together and build back better as we emerge from this crisis. Nature must be at the heart of our green recovery from Covid-19. Restoring it is crucial if we are to tackle biodiversity loss and climate change and provide resilience from future pandemics. We have to work quickly and at a scale not seen before and at NatureScot we are resolved to accelerate this with a renewed focus on nature-based solutions such as peatland restoration and woodland creation.
