Olympic overview: BYU track and cross country teams take home national championships
The BYU track and cross country teams had a heyday at NCAA nationals, taking first place as a team in the women’s distance medley relay and women’s cross country, as well as individually in men’s cross country.
Cross Country
The BYU women’s cross country team won the NCAA National Championship on March 15, the Cougars’ fifth team national title in program history. The team competed at the OSU Course in Stillwater, Oklahoma, finishing with 96 overall points.
BYU had seven runners competing, five of which finished in the top 40. Senior Anna Camp-Bennet led the way for the Cougars, finishing the 6K course in just 20:28.3, 11th place overall. Junior Aubrey Frentheway and senior Whittni Orton were not far behind her, finishing 15th and 17th respectively.

The Orlando Pride continued to rebuild their roster on Wednesday night, selecting four players in the 2021 NWSL Draft. The completely virtual draft took nearly five hours, but the Orlando staff came away pleased with the team’s draftees.
“Stressful,” Orlando Pride General Manager Ian Fleming said of the draft. “Still, a lot of fun. I think we came away with some really great young players that we can build around for the future.”
PROVO BYU women s soccer won t start its truncated NCAA spring season for another month, but star midfielder Mikayla Colohan will have the option for a pro career afterward.
The former Davis High star was drafted No. 14 overall by the Orlando Pride in Wednesday night s NWSL collegiate draft.
Colohan, a 5-foot-8 midfielder who will be a senior for the Cougars, was among those automatically eligible for the draft due to COVID-19. Like all seniors in 2020-21, she will have the option to play one more season before embarking on a professional career.
The former high school All-American, three-time state champion and 2016 Ms. Soccer by the Deseret News, Colohan has 23 goals and 15 assists in three seasons at BYU, improving every year up to 15 goals and five assists in 22 games all starts as a junior a year ago, when she was named West Coast Conference Player of the Year while leading the Cougars to their second-highest NCAA Tournament seed in program history.
