The Santa Maria Joint Union High School District says Miguel Guerra, an ag teacher at Righetti High, was one of two educators in Santa Barbara County chosen to receive the 2021 Marvin Melvin Career Technical Educator Award. The P.U.P. went from controlling three full councils to majority control of all nine. Feb 10, 2021 A Search Inside Belize for Missing 8-Year-Old Guatemalan Girl A team of residents from Benque Viejo Del Carmen and Succotz carried out a search and rescue effort inside the Belize-Guatemala border.  The search started this morning after local news outlets in Melchor shared that an eight-year-old girl went missing late Tuesday evening.  They reported that the child’s clothing and bicycle were found in some bushes and Guatemalan residents made online appeals for Belizeans living along the border to search for the child.  Well, that story ended tragically for Sharon Jasmine Figueroa Arriaza when she was found dead somewhere inside Guatemalan territory earlier this afternoon.  Before the body was found, Said Badi Guerra and a group of Belizeans were on the ground searching for the child. He told us why he felt it was important to join the cause.

Feb 3, 2021 One Month to Municipal Elections 2021 The next round of municipal elections is exactly one month away. And while it doesn’t normally attract the level of campaign fanfare and prominence as the general elections, these local elections are important as they directly impact the quality of life of those who live in urban areas.  According to the Elections and Boundaries Department, as of December 2020, there are ninety-two thousand eight hundred and thirty-eight registered voters across the nine municipalities. But registration was completed on January twenty-fifth, so that number is expected to increase.  In the 2018 Municipal Elections, there were one hundred and fourteen thousand five hundred and seventy-four registered voters, which put the December 2020 count short of twenty-one thousand seven hundred and thirty-six registered voters.  This is a result of the cleaning up of the voters’ list during the re-registration process.  In the 2018 municipal el
