The tweets republicans wish would stop include several attacking michigans governor just after it was announced yesterday that Law Enforcement had foiled an alleged plot to kidnap and perhaps harm her. The president chose that moment to condemn the governors response to the coronavirus and suggest she doesnt thank him enough. Governor Gretchen Whitmer says the president s refusal to denounce militia groups and White Supremacists fue

Over the last seven days, the United States grew its case count by a numbing 481,000 new cases. Its the highest single week of cases over the course of the entire pandemic. Joe biden is not going to ban fracking. He is going to deal with oil subsidies, but the president likes to put everything out of context. Lets be clear, what joe was talking about was banning subsidies, he will not ban fracking in america. This is always an odd wait and see moment. We knew the state of the race when they walked on stage last night. Joe biden was the frontrunner and convincingly so if you study numbers like that, or if you look at the map. When the debate ended, instant polls scored it a biden win. Consensus instant analysis is maybe President Trump helped his cause some but not enough. Americas take. Voters around the country, their takes often differ than washingtons take. Now we wait a few days to see how the final debate settles across the 50 state puzzle. We know some things as we wait. More than 50 million ballots are cast. Data tells us democrats have an edge there. We know the coronavirus, already the defining 2020 issue is surging as the leaves change and as th

Blue Blazes: My trail discovery story

It started out so innocently. I was reading the May 2009 edition of Backpacker magazine and came across an article titled America’s Best Day Hikes. Under the Midwest Prairie suggestions was a 9-mile hike in the Sheyenne National Grassland (SNG) with the following description. “Pristine tall-grass prairies offer a unique peek into America’s scenic past. This North Dakota gem offers that, plus a well-maintained section of the North Country Trail. As you hike through the towering grasses, look for the rare regal fritillary butterfly and threatened western prairie fringed orchid. Start at Sheyenne’s eastern trailhead (near Lisbon, North Dakota) and follow the rolling path west to the Iron Spring Creek oasis-a perfect lunch stop with flowing water and shade from cottonwoods. Turn back here.”
