COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - After a school bus was hijacked with 18 kids on board, law enforcement says one man emerged as a hero: the driver.
Despite remaining calm at gunpoint and putting the safety of his students first, Richland School District Two bus driver Kenneth Corbin shrugs off this new title.
âI would and will defer that title to my kids. They are my heroes,â Corbin said to reporters Friday.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - State Superintendent Molly Spearman said she was reading the Governorâs most recent executive order to make masks optional in schools for the first time last night when school leaders started reaching out to her with questions.
âTo be honest with you, it has caused much commotion and chaos across many of our schools and communities in South Carolina,â Spearman told reporters Thursday. âThere was no time for school districts to prepare, or very little time, or any form for parents to fill out to sign.â

LEXINGTON, S.C. (WIS) - Lexington School District One has announced that students will still be required to wear face masks on school campuses.
Superintendent Dr. Greg Little released a statement to parents and guardians regarding the Governorâs Executive Order saying:
âThis evening, Governor McMaster issued an executive order, Executive Order 2021-23, which allows parents to sign a form to opt their students out of wearing a mask at school. The Order still requires face coverings for students and staff on school buses (Presidentâs Executive Order No. 13998).

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Officials with the Richland One School District have announced that students will still be required to wear face masks on school grounds.
Superintendent Dr. Craig Witherspoon sent a message to students and staff regarding the
“Late this afternoon, the governor issued an executive order regarding the wearing of face coverings in public schools. We have not had an opportunity to review and assess the 15-page order in its entirety. We are also awaiting guidance and additional information from the S.C. Department of Education and the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control.

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WIS) - Officials with the Orangeburg County School District has announced it will be transitioning to 5-day in-person learning beginning Monday, April 19.
Schools will dismiss students two hours early on Fridays to allow student meal distribution services to continue for virtual learners. This time will also be allotted for teacher and staff planning, professional development, and collaboration.
Student meal pickup will still be available at each school campus.
