MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ONT. The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) is reporting 20 new COVID-19 cases, but no new deaths Tuesday. The London region now has a cumulative total of 6,118 cases, 5,830 resolved and 181 deaths, leaving 107 active cases. It has been more than a week since the last death in the region. The 20 new cases mark the highest daily count in the last 10 days - since 31 cases were reported on Feb. 13. The number of ongoing outbreaks at seniors facilities in the region dropped to five, after a long-running outbreak at Middlesex Terrace in Delaware, Ont. was declared over. That outbreak began on Dec. 23, and saw a total of 155 cases, including 75 residents and 80 staff. It is also where 19-year-old Yassin Dabeh, one of Canada s youngest COVID-19-related deaths, had been working as a cleaner.

The Middlesex-London Health Unit’s trumpeting of a vaccination milestone is drawing fire from the families of some long-term care residents. “We will have all long-term care homes vaccinated by the end of this week,” said Medical Officer of Health Dr. Chris Mackie during a media briefing on Thursday. “Everyone in long-term care homes will have been offered, and almost all have received, two doses.” “That’s not true!” charges Kristin Hunter, whose father lives at Middlesex Terrace in Delaware. ““It’s not true that everyone has received a first dose.” Hunter says her father was diagnosed with COVID-19 on January 8, and was not offered the vaccination when a mobile clinic was held.

The father of Ontario’s youngest COVID-19 victim is speaking out about hurtful and “absurd rumours” spreading online that his teenage son’s death was the result of suicide or a drug overdose, rather than the virus that’s killed over 5,000 Ontarians.
“They were not there at the time of death and they were not there to watch him struggle with COVID-19, let us mourn in peace,” Ahmad Dabeh said, addressing the social media rumours through a translator.
