The Middlesex London Health Unit reported the death of an 18-year-old man Thursday, marking the cityâs youngest coronavirus victim since the start of the pandemic.Â
The health unit has little information on whether the teengaer had pre-existing medical conditions, but Dr. Chris Mackie, chief medical officer of health at the MLHU, said contact tracers are âpretty confidentâ that the individual is not a post-secondary student.Â
The health unit said the 18-year-old âdeclined very quicklyâ making it challenging for the health unit to investigate the death.  Â
The 18-year-old was among three deaths reported Thursday. Dr. Mackie confirmed none of the victims were vaccinated.Â
MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ONT. The London teen who died of COVID-19 has been identified by family as Owen Brandies. Brandice Arquette tells CTV News London her brother died Tuesday evening from COVID-19. The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) reported the death on Thursday. Arquette says she has spoken to the coroner, who confirmed he had no underlying or pre-existing conditions. Officials have said he was admitted to hospital in respiratory distress and died the same day. Brandies is the youngest COVID-19-related death in the Middlesex-London region to date. Previously, 19-year-old Yassin Dabeh, who died in January, was the youngest death in the region related to the pandemic.

LONDON, ONT. The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) is reporting 94 new COVID-19 cases Thursday, and three new deaths including an 18-year-old male. It is the most deaths reported in a single day in several weeks, with the highest ever - seven deaths - reported Jan. 17. The 18-year-old represents the youngest victim from the region to date. MLHU Medical Officer of Heath Dr. Chris Mackie says there are few details available at the moment about the death other than that he was admitted to hospital in respiratory distress and died the same day. Unfortunately other people in his family are also sick and so it s difficult for us to get full data. At this point we know this is a not person who was in post-secondary, we don t believe that this was a person who was a high school student either.at this point. We also dont know if there were underlying medical conditions.
